Split by top level bookmarks

(Not available in the Free version)

The Split by top level bookmarks tool allows the user to split the currently opened PDF document based on the top level bookmarks in the file.

The original PDF document is kept unmodified, and the parts are written to separate files in the specified folder.

To split a document by top level bookmarks, please navigate to the Tools tab, click on the Cut/Split file option, and select the Split by top level bookmarks option.

Clicking on the Split by top level bookmarks option displays the following window:

The split parts of the document can be saved into The same folder as the opened document, or to a specified folder if the Select a folder option is selected.

The new files can be named based on the bookmark names if the Use bookmark names for the file names option is selected.

Alternatively, the file name of the original document can be combined with a label, a file counter, and a separator if the Add label and number before original name, or the Add label and number after original name option is selected.

The label and the separator can be specified independently with the Use label and Use separator between original name and label options.

E.g.: If the original name of the PDF file Document.pdf, using the Add label and number after original name option with “Part” as the label and “_” as the separator, the file names will be the following:

Document_Part1.pdf

Document_Part2.pdf

Document_Part3.pdf

…

Depending on the Overwrite existing files checkbox, if the file already exists in the folder, it will either be silently overwritten, or the split operation will be aborted with an error message.
