Supported File Formats and MIME Types

The TIFF Viewer Internet Explorer Browser Plug-In supports several File Formats, and MIME Types.

What is MIME Type?

A media type (also known as a Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions or MIME type) is a standard that indicates the nature and format of a document or file.

Browsers use the MIME type, not the file extension, to determine how to process a URL, so it's important that web servers send the correct MIME type in the response's Content-Type header. If this is not correctly configured, browsers are likely to misinterpret the contents of files and sites will not work correctly, and downloaded files may be mishandled.

Supported File Formats:

File Format

TIFF, FAX Files

Image PDF (Only available with the TIFF Viewer Pro)

Vector / editable PDF (Only available with the TIFF Viewer Pro)

JPEG Image

TEXT File

ICA File

Supported MIME Types:

MIME (Response Header Content-Type)

image/tiff

image/jpeg

image/x-ioca

NOTE: If the Content-Type is not one of the above list, then the Internet Explorer will not redirect the file to be opened with TIFF Viewer Browser Plug-in, even if it’s a TIFF document.
