Securing RDP Connection

It is possible to use SLL certificates for authenticating and encrypting RDP connections. However, RDP security is not configured through Print2RDP. Print2RDP uses the same level of security for authentication and encryption as configured for the RDP session.

Please refer to the online resources on how to configure a secure RDP connection. Administrators are advised to do proper research on how to secure RDP connection in their specific environments. As a short summary, the following information must be noted:

Requirements:

Basic steps to use TLS/SSL secured RDP connection include:

  1. Install a computer-based TLS/SSL certificate on the terminal server.

  2. Enable TLS/SSL in terminal services on the server.

  3. Configure the client to trust the CA responsible for issuing the server certificate on the terminal server.

  4. Configure remote desktop connection to use the certificate.

When configured correctly, a small padlock appears at the top of the RDP screen. Clicking on the padlock will display the certificate that is in use.
