Print Spooler hanging when printing to Black Ice Printer

Postby kebeda » Tue Jan 04, 2005 4:34 pm

I am experiencing a problem where occasionally, the print spooler services will get "stuck" on a document bound for the Black Ice printer (it's status will always say "printing"). The spooler service appears to die (spoolsv.exe reports "Application Error The instruction at "0x1002b09e" referenced memory at "0x00000424". The memory could not be written"). After this point, everything you send to the Black Ice printer will queue up, but never be printed. The only solution is to restart the Printer Spooler Service. Of course, by the time you do that, all the programs that were waiting for output have timed out and moved along?

1. What is causing this problem? It seems to be something with the Black Ice printer driver.

2. Is it fixable? Please fix it?

3. How do we handle this error?

Did you find a resolution for this issue? Currently we have similar issue where the spooler does'nt hang but it takes lot of Memory and time to print the PDF. Any information would be appreciated.

We recommend double checking the settings being used for the print job. The higher the DPI, paper size, etc. the more memory the print job will require for processing, and the longer the print job will take. Ultimately the printing speed is dependant on the amount of available physical memory and the settings of the printer driver.

If you haven't already, we recommend that you take a look at the following: ... ements.htm

We had this problem if the filename pushed to the spooler was really long (Greater than 100 characters) The workaround would be to shorten the filename
