Extracting Text using Write Text File and Adobe

Postby TechnicalSupportTeam » Wed Aug 11, 2004 4:49 pm

The printing application must use the Microsoft Windows SDK TextOut function and must use truetype fonts. There are certain types of fonts which use glyph technology (a small picture for each character), and these types of fonts' characters cannot be extracted by the Black Ice printer drivers'
Write Text File feature. Adobe 6 switched to glyph technology, if you use Adobe 5 you can still extract most of the characters, however Adobe 5 already uses some glyph technology.

Text extraction and Glyph Characters

Postby mousio » Wed Jul 13, 2005 3:15 am

I found that those Acrobat "glyph" characters mostly only need shifting.

To be able to extract the correct text, I check the font options and the text metrics. If the ETO_GLYPH_INDEX flag is set, the characters really are glyph indices; for ASCII code < 32 there rarely are real glyphs, and as a mapping I just need to add tmFirstChar - 1 to the index to get the real character (ASCII code). This has not given me any problems so far...
