Error saving DEVMODE under Vista

Postby TechnicalSupportTeam » Thu Mar 08, 2007 1:32 pm

Question:
I am trying to change the BlackIceDEVMODE during runtime. This usually works fine, but as a regular User under Windows VISTA, I get Error Code 5 (Access Denied). If I do this as a user with Administrator priviledges, everything works again.

Answer:

The VISTA operating system doesn’t allow you to change the printer settings without appropriate security permissions.

You have to add the permission to a user name or group for changing the printer settings:

Open Printers
Right click on the printer and select “Properties”
Select Security Tab
Add User Name or group to “Group or user names”
Allow “Manage printers” permission to the selected user or group
Click OK

If you add “Manage printers” permission to the user, you can use the SaveBlackIceDEVMODE without error 5 (access denied).
