Manually Uninstalling the Printer Drivers

 

If the printer driver needs to be uninstalled, it should be uninstalled from Control Panel > Add/Remove programs, or programmatically as outlined in the Uninstall Dll() section.

 

However in certain cases one may need to uninstall the printer driver manually from the system. This section outlines the steps necessary to uninstall Black Ice Printer Drivers.

 

Delete files from the spool folder

 

The following example will demonstrate how to uninstall manually the ColorPlus printer driver completely. In some cases it is possible that some files or registry entries mentioned in this document cannot be found on the computer because they are already removed by a failed uninstall attempt or damage to the file system or registry.

 

The process is similar to all other printer drivers and operating systems. Special notes will indicate if the steps differ on different types of printer drivers (Monochrome, PDF etc.) on 64 bit or on terminal servers.

 

Removing the printer

 

On Windows 10/8/7 and 2022/2019/2016/2012:

Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Devices and Printers, right-click the Black Ice printer and select “Remove device”.

 

On Windows 11:

Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Black Ice Printer Driver > Remove

 

The OEM printer names can be one of the following, depending on which driver you installed:

Restart the spooler.

 

Start > Run… or Start>Search program and files in Windows 7

Type cmd (Command prompt must be run in Administrator mode in Windows 7 or later)

Type net stop spooler and hit enter 

Type net start spooler and hit enter

If you get an “Access denied” message reboot the computer, and try it again.

 

 

Removing the driver and port from the Print Server

Printer Driver port names are the following:

In case of Printer Driver Demo installation the end of the port name is ‘D’ instead of ‘R’. For example ‘IcePortAUD’ is the port name of ColorPlus Demo printer diver.

 

On Windows 11/10/8/7 and 2022/2019/2016/2012:

 

1.    Go to Start (Go to Settings on Windows 11/10/8/2022/2019/2016/2012)->Devices and Printers.

2.    Select a printer. Print Server properties button will appear on the menu bar. Click on “Print Server Properties”.

3.    Go to the port tab and delete the Iceport (An access denied warning might come up. Hit OK, the when the registry keys are deleted in the next step, and the spooler is restarted the port will be deleted)

4.    Go to the driver tab and delete the printer driver

 

 

Delete Registry keys

 

Delete the following registry keys:

 

 The name of the printer, port monitor, drivers, and print processor will depend on which printer driver you are uninstalling. Please see specific notes below the registry entry.

 

On 64 bit machines substitute Windows NT x86 with Windows x64.

 

Open Reg Editor

Start>Run… or Start>Search program and files on Windows 7 or later

Type regedit , and hit enter.

 

1.                    On 32 bit operating system:

If previously when deleting the port from the print server an access denied message appears, please follow the instructions of restart the spooler.

 

Open up print server properties and go to port tab: Iceport corresponding to the printer driver should not be present.

 

Deleting Files

The above filenames are specific for the ColorPlus Printer Driver. The 3rd letter of the filenames will change depending on the type of the driver:

A = ColorPlus Printer Driver, e.g. BuAMonNT.dll

C = Color Printer Driver, e.g. BuCMonNT.dll

P = PDF Printer Driver, e.g. BuPMonNT.dll

M = Monochrome Printer Driver, e.g. BuMMonNT.dll,

E = EMF Printer Driver, e.g. BuEMonNT.dll

The last two letters will indicate whether it is a demo or release version and whether it is for Terminal Servers or for desktops.

            NT=release version of the desktop driver

            ND=demo version of the desktop driver

            TS=release version of terminal server drivers

            TD=demo version of terminal server drivers

  1. Delete the following files; substitute C:\WINDOWS with the path where the operating system is installed. Files will be specific to the printer driver. You can only delete the files if the printer driver was not the default or the last printer on the system.

     

    Shared files: these files are used by other Black Ice products. Only remove these files if there are no other Black Ice products installed on the system.

    “Black Ice EMF” in the case of uninstalling Black Ice EMF/Metafile printer driver

     

    For non-OEM printer drivers the Black Ice Printer Manager should also be uninstalled when uninstalling printer drivers manually. Please visit the following link for more information on how to manually uninstall the Black Ice Printer Manager.

     

    Remove the remaining Black Ice Printer Driver Start Menu entries

    1.    Go to Start Menu/All programs

    2.    Look for the ColorPlus Printer Driver folder and right-click on it, then click Delete

     

    Substitute “Black Ice ColorPlus” with

    “Black Ice Color” in the case of uninstalling Black Ice Color printer driver

    “Black Ice PDF” in the case of uninstalling Black Ice PDF X1 printer driver

    “Black Ice Monochrome” in the case of uninstalling Black Ice Monochrome printer driver

     “Black Ice EMF” in the case of uninstalling Black Ice EMF printer driver

     

    Now restart the computer and the printer driver is properly uninstalled.

     

     

    Manually Uninstalling the X1 Printer Drivers

     

    If the printer driver needs to be uninstalled, it should be uninstalled from Control Panel > Add/Remove programs, or programmatically as outlined in the Uninstall Dll() section.

     

    However in certain cases one may need to uninstall the printer driver manually from the system. This section outlines the steps necessary to uninstall Black Ice Printer Drivers.

     

     

    The following example will demonstrate how to uninstall manually the ColorPlus X1 printer driver.

    The process is similar to all other printer drivers and operating systems. Special notes will indicate if the steps differ on different types of printer drivers (Monochrome, PDF etc.) on 64 bit or on terminal Servers.

     

    Removing the printer

     

    On Windows 10/8/7 and 2022/2019/2016/2012:

    Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Devices and Printers, right-click the Black Ice printer and select “Remove device”.

     

    On Windows 11:

    Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Black Ice Printer Driver > Remove

     

    The OEM printer names can be one of the following, depending on which driver you installed:

     

    Black Ice TIFF X1

    Black Ice TIFF X1(Demo)

    Black Ice TIFF X1 Server

    Black Ice TIFF X1 Server (Demo)

     

    Black Ice ColorPlus X1

    Black Ice ColorPlus X1 (Demo)

    Restart the spooler.

     

    Start > Run… or Start>Search program and files in Windows 7

    Type cmd (Command prompt must be run in Administrator mode in Windows 7 or later)

     

    Type net stop spooler and hit enter 

    Type net start spooler and hit enter

    If you get an “Access denied” message reboot the computer, and try it again.

     

    Removing the driver and port from the Print Server

    Printer Driver port names are the following:

    In case of Printer Driver Demo installation the end of the port name is ‘D’ instead of ‘R’. For example ‘IcePortAUD’ is the port name of ColorPlus Demo printer diver.

     

    On Windows 11/10/8/7 and 2022/2019/2016/2012:

    1.    Go to Start (Go to Settings on Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012)->Devices and Printers.

    2.    Select a printer. Print Server properties button will appear on the menu bar. Click on “Print Server Properties”.

    3.    Go to the port tab and delete the Iceport (An access denied warning might come up. Hit OK, the when the registry keys are deleted in the next step, and the spooler is restarted the port will be deleted)

    4.    Go to the driver tab and delete the printer driver

     

    Delete Registry keys

     

    Delete the following registry keys:

     

     The name of the printer, port monitor, drivers, and print processor will depend on which printer driver you are uninstalling. Please see specific notes below the registry entry.

     

    On 64 bit machines substitute Windows NT x86 with Windows x64.

    Type regedit , and hit enter.

    The above filenames are specific for the ColorPlus Printer Driver. The 3rd letter of the filenames will change depending on the type of the driver:

    A = ColorPlus Printer Driver, e.g. BuAMonNT.dll

    C = Color Printer Driver, e.g. BuCMonNT.dll

    P = PDF Printer Driver, e.g. BuPMonNT.dll

    M = Monochrome Printer Driver, e.g. BuMMonNT.dll,

    E = EMF Printer Driver, e.g. BuEMonNT.dll

    The last two letters will indicate whether it is a demo or release version and whether it is for Terminal Servers or for desktops.

                NT=release version of the desktop driver

                ND=demo version of the desktop driver

                TS=release version of terminal server drivers

                TD=demo version of terminal server drivers

     

    As a summary files need to be deleted from:

  4. Delete the following files; substitute C:\WINDOWS with the path where the operating system is installed. Files will be specific to the printer driver. You can only delete the files if the printer driver was not the default or the last printer on the system. .

     

    Shared files: these files are used by other Black Ice products. Only remove these files if there are no other Black Ice products installed on the system.
