Configure the printer setting for all users using the INI file

It is possible to use the Printer Driver INI file to set the default settings for all users.

Windows 11/10/8/7 operating systems allow each user to have their own printer settings. Each printer driver has so called default settings. The default settings are used by the system to create the initial settings for new users who have never used that particular printer. The default settings can be set using the printer driver’s INI file. At install time the printer driver will read the settings from the INI file and will use those settings as the default. If a setting is not specified in the INI file, or the specified value is incorrect, the printer driver will use the setting that is hardcoded in the driver. These settings are reloaded from the INI file each time the restore defaults button is pressed.

After installation the settings can be changed for all users if the printer driver is reinstalled. At reinstall the printer driver will reload the INI file settings for each users at the first use. Install allows to change the settings for all users by providing a custom configuration dialog. Otherwise without reinstallation, every user would need to press the restore defaults button on the Printing Preferences after the modification of the INI file.

The Install and Uninstall DLL were enhanced with a workaround feature which removes all existing printer driver settings at uninstall time.

TIP: Always double check that the flags value in the INI file is set correctly because if it is incorrect, the printer driver will use the default settings that are hard-coded in the driver.
