Adding Printers

Print2RDP can restrict how many client printers are connected to the terminal server system.  Printer restrictions can be found in the Print2RDP server settings. The Print2RDP Server settings can be reached from the Start menu > Programs > Print2RDP Server > Print2RDP Server Properties.

Choose an option to restrict the number of printers that clients can connect with.

By clicking the radio button of Add Client Default Printer Only, the Print2RDP client will only map the client’s default printer while logged onto the 2008, 2003, Citrix, or Terminal Server environment. Additionally, if the Make the User Printer the default printer on the Server option is checked, the client’s default printer becomes the default printer in the user session.

By selecting the Use the Print2RDP Client Configuration to add printer(s) option, the administrator allows the clients to add or remove printers at their own discretion.

If the Update printer settings when reconnecting option is enabled, printer settings are updated during both login and session reconnections. When unchecked, printer settings are updated only when the user logs in to the server. Updating the settings may result in system slowdowns if a large number of users reconnect following a network issue. This option is enabled by default.

If the Make the attached printer(s) usable by every logged-in user option is enabled, each user's printer will be visible to other users on the server, and any user will be able to print to any other user's attached printer(s).

If the Make all attached printers visible for Administrators option is enabled, Administrators will be able to see the printers of all users. The Administrators cannot print to other users’ printers unless the “Make the attached printer(s) usable by every logged-in user” option is also turned on, but they are able to delete printers. Due to the way Microsoft Windows works, it is still possible that a user’s printer will be visible to other users temporarily while the login process is underway, even if the “Make all attached printers visible for Administrators”option is disabled.

If the Disable parallel printing checkbox is checked, all the attached printers will use the same port for printing. This feature is recommended in the case where a large number of printers or print jobs are slowing down the server.

NOTE: When the Disable parallel printing option is checked, the printing is sequential, and not parallel, resulting slower printing, and less CPU and memory usage.

NOTE: When the Disable parallel printing option is checked, the operating system will group the attached printers in Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Enable Asymmetric DPI (Resolution)

Enable Asymmetric DPI (Resolution) is not recommended. Some applications like Excel or Adobe Reader, cannot handle asymmetric resolution such as 300x600 DPI. If the option is enabled, the printed document can be distorted.

Do not show warning message about old Print2RDP client version

When connecting to the server with an older Print2RDP client version than the server, then the Print2RDP server will show a warning message about the version difference. In order to hide the warning message, enable the “Do not show warning message about old Print2RDP Client version” checkbox.
